Is alpaca warmer than sheep wool?

It can feel very warm for its weight, but warmth depends on fiber content, fabric structure, thickness, and fit. Compare the actual garment, not just the fiber name.

What does baby alpaca mean?

Usually a softer, finer grade term in apparel—not automatic proof that the fiber came from a baby animal.

Do alpaca sweaters pill?

Some do, especially softer knits and looser constructions. Light pilling is normal in many luxury fibers and can often be managed with gentle maintenance.

Is 100% alpaca always better than a blend?

No. Blends can improve stretch, resilience, price, or structure. The right answer depends on how you want the garment to wear and feel.

Can I machine wash alpaca?

Only if the care label explicitly allows it. Many alpaca garments are safest with very gentle hand care or professional cleaning.

Why does alpaca clothing cost more?

Price can reflect fiber fineness, origin, smaller supply, handwork, brand positioning, and construction quality.

Can alpaca feel itchy?

Yes for some people, especially if the garment is coarser, blended differently, or worn next to sensitive skin. Softness varies by fiber grade and fabric construction.

What should the label tell me?

At minimum, fiber content. In many markets it should also disclose origin and business identity, and apparel labels should include care instructions.

Are Peruvian alpaca garments always handmade?

No. Some are handmade, some are small-batch workshop goods, and some are industrially produced. Origin and manufacturing scale are separate questions.

What is the easiest alpaca gift to buy?

Scarves, wraps, hats, and gloves are usually lower risk than fitted sweaters because sizing is simpler.
