Care for Alpaca Plush & Décor

Different alpaca figures need different care. This page helps you clean and store them without damage.

Quick answer

Care depends entirely on the material and intended use. Plush toys, needle-felted figures, yarn-based creations, and hide-based decorative figures should not be treated the same way.

Plush toys and soft fabric figures

Follow the maker’s label first. Many plush items respond best to gentle surface cleaning, limited spot washing, or very careful hand washing if the construction allows it. Avoid aggressive drying, strong heat, and rough scrubbing that can distort stuffing or facial details.

Needle-felted, yarn, and fiber-art pieces

These items are often decorative and can be delicate. Use light dusting, careful spot cleaning, and minimal moisture. Loose fibers, glued elements, and stitched accessories can change shape or detach if the figure is soaked.

Hide-based decorative figures

Do not assume a hide-based figure can be washed like plush. Moisture, heat, and friction can damage shape, surface texture, adhesives, and finishing details. These pieces usually need dry, gentle handling and sheltered display or storage away from strong sun, humidity, and pests.

Storage checklist

  • Store fully dry and clean.
  • Protect from dust and direct sunlight.
  • Keep away from damp environments and rough handling.
  • For animal-fiber or hide items, watch for moth and pest exposure in long-term storage.
